Don Harrison Great New MetalI’m proud to announce that I am part of the management team for Great New Metal, a business designed to provide exposure and generate revenue for emerging acts in the world of heavy music. Other members of management include Brian Shields (founder/publisher), Greg Kennelty (managing editor) and Rebecca Firstenfeld (business advisor). My own role being that of business consultant and promotions.

Our Board of Advisors consists of well-known and emerging musicians as well as industry insiders – Paul Waggoner (BTBAM), Paul Masvidal (Cynic), Brian Fair (Shadows Fall), and Cary Geare (Sons of Aurelius).

Unlike so much of what’s on the metal web, GNM is not a place for haters because we only focus on great music from across all sub-genres so there’s something for every metal taste.  In my particular case, I’m a metal head from way back and I’ve retained a flare for the melodic, the epic, and the powerful.  I lean heavily toward ethnic, regional or folk influenced metal, but still have a soft spot for the old school.

Click CD cover to visit the Hemoptysis website.

USA thrash/death metal band, HEMOPTYSIS, are fresh out of the studio with Grammy Award winning producer, Ryan Greene (Megadeth, NOFX, MXPX). The result? Their debut full length album, Misanthropic Slaughter, set to be released in the Spring of 2011. Check out the title track below, along with the previously released “Shadow of Death.”

I’m pretty pumped about this, as I have somewhat of a history with the band. I first ran across HEMOPTYSIS a couple of years ago when they signed on with a promotion company I was working with, at the time. It didn’t take long for me to become a fan, not only of the music, but of the band’s professionalism and work ethics. Particularly, that of guitarist/vocalist, Masaki Murashita.

Written by front man Masaki Murashita, the song deals with senseless wars in which citizens are forced to fight or die for. It also features guitarist, Chris Cannella of Autumn’s End and N17.
